Ellingson-DTD was contracted to perform video services on a double-ended (continuous) well completed under an unlined FGD pond at a CCR facility. The total installed well length is 2,030’. The installation is constructed of 4” diameter welded stainless steel. The well is completed with 100’ of entry blank, 1,040’ of 0.020” width slotted screen, followed by 890’ of exit blank. Ellingson began the survey by advancing the well camera assembly from the entry location at the south end of the pond. The assembly was slowly advanced through the entry blank until water was observed at approximately 33’ into the well. Minor scaling was identified within the entry blank prior to entering the water column. Trace fines were observed while advancing the camera through the water column. Screen slots were observed intact and clear of fouling or sediment. Upon exiting the water column some biofouling was observed on the walls of the well with the camera pushing fouling forward as it was advanced. As the camera was advanced further beyond the end of the water column the observed biofouling decreased, and the screen slots continued to appear clear of obstruction. The camera assembly was advanced approximately 800’ into the well from the south end before it could not be advanced further due to friction and the well angle. No obstructions or issues were noted. Ellingson is working with the consultant on a plan to properly abandon this well.
